The Calcasieu Estuary lies in extreme Southwest Louisiana. Calcasieu Lake, which is essentially a 40,000 acre bay, sits just South of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The shallow water sight fishing we enjoy is in the marshes surrounding Calcasieu Lake, and Sabine Lake. These marshes range from 8 inches to 2 feet deep, and from a fairly high salinity salt grass and alligator grass environment, to almost completely fresh marshes filled with roseau cane and coon-tail aquatic grass, where largemouth bass may be caught on alternating cast with redfish. |

The specific area we fish on a given day is determined by wind, weather, and tide conditions, as well as recent success.
In addition to exceptional redfishing; sheepshead, flounder, and giant black drum are often found and caught in the same shallow water environment.
If you take the time to look around during the action, you will also enjoy the breathtaking flora and fauna of the Louisiana Coastal Marsh. Our marsh is considered to be the most fertile habitat on the planet, containing more biomass than any other environment. You will likely encounter a variety of ducks and migratory birds, osprey, hawks and other raptors, bright pink roseate spoonbills, blue heron, snowy egrets, ibis, brown and white pelicans, kingfishers, numerous shore birds, otter, raccoon, nutria and often alligator, along with many other species. Bring a camera, there will be many memories you will want to preserve.
